🔬 Success Story #2 – Laboratory of Medical Microbiology, UZA
I’m proud to highlight the important work of the Laboratory of Medical Microbiology, a decentral hub within the Antwerp Biobank (UZA).
In this success story, they offer a behind‑the‑scenes look at their role in VACCELERATE_EU, the pan‑European clinical research network accelerating vaccine trial readiness across Europe.

VACCELERATE_EU aims to harmonize and streamline clinical trial operations — ensuring rapid access to trial sites, expert teams, and standardized protocols. Today, the biobank already stores over 64,000 aliquots collected from volunteers who provided informed consent for future research.

Several scientific publications stemming from this work have already appeared, with more underway:
• Immunogenicity, reactogenicity, and safety of a second booster with BNT162b2 or full-dose mRNA‑1273 in adults aged ≥75 years

• Immunogenicity and reactogenicity of a first booster with BNT162b2 or full-dose mRNA‑1273 in adults aged ≥75 years (EU‑COVAT‑1)
